After East Timor, the Laos U-15 national team who were competing in the AFF Under-15 Cup 2019 allegedly used players who stole age. Suspicion was revealed by Malaysian Under-15 coach Pachaiappan Maniam, who suspected that there were Laos players who looked older than other players.
Previously, the East Timor captain, Paulo Domingos Gali da Costa Freitas, was rumored to be over 22 years old. AFF on its official website also mentioned that it had received a report and was investigating it.
However, there is now a new suspicion regarding the theft of age in the AFF Cup U-15 2019. The allegation was expressed by Maniam who felt Laos had players who had more age than they should.
"Laos may have one player that has exceeded age. From the observations I made, striker Phomma Khotphouthone looked like 18 or 19 years old. However, we will not create excitement. There are no plans to report them, "Maniam said as reported by the New Straits Times.
"As for Freitas, I have been told he has two identity cards. Players are not required to go through a bone age test for age verification in this tournament. So some teams might register players who are over the age. We will remain calm because we only want to gain experience in this tournament, "he continued.
At present only Timor Leste has its status under investigation by the AFF after reports of the theft of Freitas's age in the AFF Cup Under-15 2019. The player number 10 who was also the captain of the team also managed to score in a 1-1 draw with the Indonesian national team U- 15.
